Bosendorfer Pianos include the Bosendorfer Grand Piano in seven different sizes, from 170 to 290 cm in length, an upright with the sound of a Bosendorfer Grand Piano. Acquiring a Bosendorfer is a lifetime dream to many people. Bosendorfer builds something very special, with devotion and professionalism.

Bosendorfer in Vienna, Austria, is exemplary of the art of Viennese piano making and sound culture traditions. Since 1828, Bosendorfer has produced Grand Piano and Upright Piano with the unique Bosendorfer sound for concert stages, educational institutions, pianists and music lovers worldwide.

Bosendorfer

Unique Richness of Sound
The wood purchasers travel into the Austrian mountains searching for the perfect wood for the sounding board and the rim case. Bosendorfer Piano framework construction is also unique. The sub frame is made of solid spruce. Its construction can be compared to building a brick wall.

The primary purpose of the cast frame is to accommodate the enormous pulling power or tensile force in a Bosendorfer Piano and this could be up to 20 tons of the taut strings and their sub frame. About 40 working hours are invested in grinding and polishing the cast frame to a wonderfully smooth bronze colored finish.

Bass Strings
The bass strings are produced by Bosendorfer. They have a steel core which is wrapped by hand with one or two layers of compact copper winding. This is done to increase the weight of the strings and enables the correct vibration frequency for low notes and guarantees an even distribution of the tension placed upon the string. Bosendorfer Piano uses this special bass string production method Exclusively, which produces the specific Bosendorfer sound qualities.

Bosendorfer - Imperial

bosendorfer

Eight full octaves. Of all Bosendorfer Grand Pianos, model 290, the Imperial, carries the Bösendorfer DNA, their heritage in its most pronounced form. Historically, the Imperial was the 19th grand piano model made by the Bösendorfer company. Originally built following a suggestion by composer Ferruccio Busoni, the Imperial has 97 keys, i.e. eight full octaves. This expanded range allows faithful performances of a number of compositions by Bartók, Debussy, Ravel and, not least of all, Busoni. Combining a very powerful soundboard and a high proportion of mountain spruce from the Alps, this piano’s sound is almost orchestral. The Bösendorfer resonating box principle, which views the entire instrument as a cohesive whole, generates unsurpassed power and a poignantly full tone. Model 290 is Bosendorfers only standard Grand Piano model to have acquired an epithet when it was first built in around 1900: Imperial (lat. imperare, to order, command).

Bosendorfer - Strauss

bosendorfer

Johann Strauss’s formal title was court ball director, but he was more popularly known as the waltz king. With Strauss’s music, the popularity of the Viennese waltz spread rapidly. Austria came to be identified with this music – and still is today. The Blue Danube, for instance, composed by Strauss in 1867, is Austria’s unofficial national anthem. The Johann Strauss model produced by Bosendorfer today is inspired by the instrument on which the great master wrote his compositions, which is still in the Strauss memorial room in Vienna. With this instrument you are acquiring a piece of Viennese musical history.
